Paulo Valentino M. Magbuhos or Vin is the co-founder of the American Institute for English Proficiency and is a graduate of Mapua Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Operations Research. Even though he majored in a math-oriented degree, he has always been inclined to learning English and the arts. Those are the reasons he developed his liking for the language back in high school. He recalls that a big influence in his English was his fondness of watching English television series and movies as well as singing along with popular songs back in the days.

  1. Skills and Talents. Vin is into many things. Some of the skills and talents he posses, which he continuously hones, are the things he started in his formative years. He used to compete in poster making contests (in-school and inter-school levels) back in elementary and in high school. He was also part of a dance troupe and at the same time joined an alternative band as a vocalist. He was also active in theater since elementary, college and professionally.  Vin has starred in a PLDT and Goldilocks commercial.
  1. Hobbies. When he has time, he likes to dabble in the arts and immerse himself in it. He has picked up a guitar and learned to play using an app on his laptop. He likes to play around with graphics and layout. On weekends, he takes dance classes, sees ballet, catches theater plays, or watches movies. He usually goes to the gym or workout at home to be fit, and when he has time, he goes wakeboarding.
  1. Education and Training. Some of his training includes AutoCAD, voice lesson in choir singing, theater workshops in high school and college, acting workshop under PETA, intern-ship with PETA for Stella-Adler workshop, dance workshop with G-Force and The Addlib.
  1. Personal Motto. He believes that if you want something, you really have to want it hard because if you do, just like Paulo Coehlo’s quote, “all the universe will conspire in helping you achieve it.”
  1. Professional Philosophy. “It’s not the trivial many, but the significant few.”
  1. Traveling. He has been to a few countries: USA, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia. In the future he hopes to travel for a whole year just backpacking in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Australia.
  1. Favorites. He likes hole-in-the wall places. Food that is really good and different, but will not necessarily bore a hole in one’s pocket.
  1. Professional Experience. As co-founder of AIEP, he has spent years of his learning being a managing partner of American Institute for English Proficiency. He has also learned excellent customer service with INFONXX Phils., Inc. providing directory assistance to the US while he was finishing his college degree. He has also worked professionally as an ensemble in the local theater scene and is still active when he is called upon.  Recently, Vin has done some hosting and worked as a commercial model.

  1. Future Hopes. He hopes that someday the American Institute grows much bigger and takes part in the international English learning scene. He believes that he is in the right industry and in believing so, as it becomes bigger, he would someday be able to fuse his other passions, which is the arts in the course offering of AIEP.

  2. Growing up Memories.  One of the things he was fond of watching was MacGyver. He remembers DIY-ing things when his toys were broken. That is probably the reason why he likes to find ways on how to fix things with whatever he has on hand. The resourcefulness of that fictional character has rubbed off on him.
