WHAT MAKES THE PHILIPPINES THE IDEAL TOURIST DESTINATION?

THE PHILIPPINES IS A LARGE COUNTRY WITH 7,108 ISLANDS AT LOW TIDE, AND IT'S SITUATED IN THE HEART OF SOUTH-EAST ASIA. THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST ISLANDS ARE LUZON AND MINDANAO. THE PHILIPPINES' CULTURE IS VERY RICH; MOST OF THE CUSTOMS AND BELIEFS WERE ADOPTED FROM ITS PREVIOUS INVADERS: SPAIN, USA, AND JAPAN. THE COUNTRY WAS NAMED AFTER KING OF SPAIN, KING PHILIP II. FILIPINO (TAGALOG) IS THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE, TOGETHER WITH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, SPANISH ARE ALSO SPOKEN AND OVER A 100 OTHER DIALECTS. THE CLIMATE IS MOSTLY HOT ALL YEAR ROUND, BUT SEA BREEZES LOWER THE TEMPERATURE FROM THE END OF THE YEAR UNTIL JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. THE TYPHOON SEASON IS FROM JULY TO OCTOBER, ALTHOUGH, IN RECENT YEARS, THIS RAINY SEASON ENDS LATER IN THE YEAR.

THE PEOPLE AND ITS GROWING POPULATION ARE KNOWN AS THE WORLD'S HAPPIEST RACE. FILIPINOS ARE RESILIENT IN TIMES OF TROUBLE, AND THAT'S WHY THEY MAKE THE 'BAYANIHAN' (COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP) IN TIMES OF TRAGEDY AND HELP ONE ANOTHER. FILIPINOS ARE HARD WORKING AND KNOWN AROUND THE WORLD FOR THEIR CREATIVITY AND DEDICATION. SOME OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT, FILIPINO: LEAH SALONGA (A TONY AWARDEE), REGINE VELASQUEZ (ASIA'S SONGBIRD), AND, MORE RECENTLY, CHARICE, WHO IS MAKING A MARK ON THE US' MUSIC CHARTS, AND MANY OTHERS.

THE PHILIPPINES IS HOME TO MANY SPECIAL EVENTS.  THE COUNTRY'S FEAST, THE SINULOG FESTIVAL IN CEBU, IS THE COUNTRY’S MOST POPULAR CELEBRATION AND THE MOTHER OF MANY FEASTS IN THE COUNTRY.  IT IS KNOWN AS ONE OF THE BEST FIESTAS IN THE WORLD. THE PINAGBENGA (FLOWER FESTIVAL) IN BAGUIO CITY IS ONE OF THE MOST COLORFUL PARADES IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE COUNTRY. THE OBANDO FERTILITY RITE IS KNOWN AS THE FERTILITY DANCE AND ALL THE PARTICIPANTS MUST DANCE HOLDING AN IMAGE OF THE NIÑO. OTHER EVENTS INCLUDE THE ANNUAL BLACK NAZARINE PARADE, FOR WHICH MANY BELIEVERS TRAVEL TO QUIAPO AND WHICH UNITES ALL THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN THE COUNTRY.

THE ENORMOUS NUMBER OF ISLANDS MAKES THE PHILIPPINES AN INTERESTING TO VISIT. NORTHERN LUZON, WITH ITS COLD AND HUMID ATMOSPHERE DURING THE DAYTIME, OFFERS A GOOD TIME FOR BONDING IN BAGUIO AND BENGUET. THE ISLAND OF PALAWAN HAS A LOT OF FUN TO OFFER. THE BEACHES ARE VERY NICE AND YOU CAN ENJOY THEM ALMOST EVERYWHERE ON THE ISLANDS. PALAWAN ALSO OFFERS THE CHANCE TO SEE THE PUERTO PRINCESA SUBTERRANEAN UNDERGROUND RIVER NATIONAL PARK; SELCTED AS ONE OF THE WORLD’S SEVEN NATURAL WONDERS FOR 2011. CENTRAL LUZON ALSO OFFER OPEN BEACHES, INCLUDING ALAMINOS AND LINGAYEN IN PANGASINAN, IN WHICH YOU CAN SWIM IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA. IN THE SOUTH PART OF LUZON, VISITORS CAN RUN ALONG THE BEACHES IN AURORA AND ENJOY THE BREATHTAKING VIEW OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN. BOHOL IN THE VISAYAS IS ALSO A GREAT ADVENTURE; THE CHOCOLATE HILLS SEEM TO CHANGE COLOR DEPENDING ON THE SEASON. MAGNIFICENT CEBU CITY IS A RELAXING, RELIGIOUS CITY IN THE HEART OF THE VISAYAS. LEYTE IS FAMOUS AS A BATTLE GROUND BETWEEN THE JAPANESE AND THE AMERICAN NAVAL TROOPS IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR II, AND IT IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE LARGEST NAVAL BATTLE IN MODERN HISTORY. IN MINDANAO, DAVAO PROVINCE IS THE MOST POPULAR BECAUSE OF ITS DELICIOUS DURIANS, AND DAVAO CITY IS ONE OF THE MOST RAPIDLY GROWING ECONOMIES IN THE SOUTH. ZAMBOANGA, A HEAVILY SPANISH PROVINCE, OFFERS A TRADITIONAL SPANISH LIFESTYLE, AS THE AREA ACQUIRED ALMOST MANY CUSTOMS FROM ITS SPANISH RULERS, WHO OCCUPIED THE AREA FOR MORE THAN 300 YEARS; CHAVACANO/SPANISH IS WIDELY SPOKEN ALL OVER THE PROVINCE, AND MOST OF THE HOUSES ARE SPANISH-INSPIRED.

THE PHILIPPINES WILL ALWAYS WELCOME YOU ALL, AND WILL GREET YOU WITH MABUHAY! DISCOVER THE WONDERS OF ITS PEOPLE, FEASTS, AND MANY ADVENTURES THAT AWAIT YOU! COME VISIT THE MAGNIFICENT ISLANDS OF THE PHILIPPINES, AND BE WOWED BY ITS UNIQUE BEAUTY AND ENORMOUS NUMBER OF ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY. WHAT MORE REASONS CAN ONE ASK TO VISIT THE PHILIPPINES-MABUHAY!

Here is my assignment and I hope I can get my certificate and I will start a new course in Quezon City. I love AEIP-Makati but I want to try in QC.

Clinical Education and Clinical Supervision: Nurse's Point of view

Education is said to be a two-way process, in which the teacher and the student exchange ideas and learn from each other in able to come with a productive learning. In nursing, it is important because it affects the success or effectivity of a nurse in rendering care to the patient. After listening to the presentation  conducted in one of my classes in Centro Escolar University, Graduate School of Nursing, I was able to gather information and realize about the significant connection of clinical education to clinical supervision, the similarity of education process and nursing process and the significance of studying clinical education and clinical supervision as a nurse. Thus, in this learning output, I will share my thoughts and the experiences I had regarding the report presented in our class.

Firstly, clinical education and clinical supervision are both applicable at the same time. It is like being a “learner+educator all in one”. As part of the healthcare group, it is important we get to be educated (learner) for us to improve our practice. For example, even if we have finished studying nursing in a university, we are still encouraged to seek continuing education programs; Taking masters in nursing is one of the options. I took masters for that reason and I have proven to myself that once you get to work, time will come where in you will feel the repetition of the work itself and as time pass by, the visible gap between knowledge and developed skills also sets in. It was a boring environment for me. Moreover, skills and knowledge should work together, because as nurses, we are dealing with lives that should be taken seriously bearing the appropriate standards in mind. The healthcare system today are more advanced where professionals equipped with advanced knowledge and skills are in demand compared to those with the usual knowledge and skills. The beauty behind being learners is that, we get to share what we learned (as an educator) to our patients, their families, to our colleagues and nursing students; Its impact is huge that we maximize our practice and fulfil our mission to help others.

Secondly, there is a similarity between education process and nursing process. From assessment to evaluation, the whole process works similarly. I believe that the nursing process serves as the backbone of our profession, whether we choose to work in the hospital setting or the academe. For example, in rendering care to our patients, first we perform assessment for us to have the baseline of the patient’s status, physically and psychosocially. This happens as well in the education process. Luckily, way back in  year 2010, I was able to experience how it feels to be a part-time clinical instructor for the caregivers in a institution back in my hometown. For ten good days, I trained and assisted the students in their clinical exposure in the hospital where I worked. I was a nurse reliever during that time, so the hospital permitted me to take an extra job for ten days. With the experience I had in handling and teaching students, I realized the significance of education process. It is always important to have guidelines or an instructional tool in able to make the learning activities organized, goal-oriented and successful. In assessing my students, I used pre-tests technique to see their readiness for the exposure by letting them take the vital signs of their classmates, I instructed them to do it by pairs. As caregivers, their hospital competencies include vital signs taking, and by that I was able to assess what level of learning they have and need. It helped me well throughout the exposure. These things are needed to be anticipated to make the learning productive and also a challenge to my capacity or credibility as their instructor. The only difference between nursing process and education process is that nursing focuses on the physical and psychosocial aspect of the patient to help him/her achieve the optimum level of well-being, whereas education process is more on the intellectual aspect of the students, their ability to learn and the actions to be considered as the teacher. Through that exposure, I was able to impart my knowledge as a nurse to the level of caregivers in which I believe had helped them develop their knowledge, skills and attitude. In addition to that, the presentation helped me realize the significance in studying clinical education and supervision even more based on the experience that I had as a clinical instructor.

Lastly, the significance in studying clinical education and clinical supervision as a nurse allows the practitioner to become competent and flexible. Through this, the competency level of the nurse also helps in achieving a certain level of confidence.  I believe that being confident in your own profession boosts one’s personality to become an effective professional. With the knowledge and capacity you have, you are able to realise what you think will benefit you and others. It is a kind of influence you are capable of giving and also develops your ability to lead. Practicing my profession for almost four years now, made me see that we nurses are already leaders from the moment we stepped inside the hospital. We are in-charge to help our patients in recovering from the illnesses they experience, we provide them with information they needed and educate them in the course of their treatment and also serve as their advocate for whatever it is they cannot clearly express to their doctors. Our competency level as nurses, are products of what we have learned and how far we have learned in our field. It provides us various opportunities to grab and does not limit our practice in the hospital alone. Knowing all of these things, it made me realize how significant clinical education and supervision is in our chosen field.

In conclusion, there are 3 things that I learned throughout the presentation: first, the significant connection between clinical education and clinical supervision, second, the similarity of education process and nursing process, and lastly, the significance in studying clinical education and clinical supervision as a nurse. Learning is a never ending process, it happens inside and outside school. Generally, life is about learning things and clinical education and supervision is just a speck of what we can still learn out of life, if we want to attain our optimum level as individuals, then we should explore life more and see what we can learn out of it.

Aubrey Gayle Dela Cruz – CWIG

In these days, it is a norm to hear bad news here and there. It seems that we are used to it and some say we couldn’t do anything about it. However, there is good news and wonderful things that is in stored for us. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”[1] There are wonderful things that the Lord has done to our lives even before we know him. In this paper, you’ll know three wonderful things that He made for you.

First is the wonderful fact. In your life maybe you feel that you are unloved. You have been rejected by your parents, friends, or any loved ones. Until now you feel the hurt and pain of being neglected. But, I’ll tell you, you are loved by the Lord. This is the wonderful fact is, no matter what happened to this world the love of the Lord for you and me will never fail, it will never be gone or fade. He loves us unconditionally, even we have been sinning, he still loves us and he wants us to embrace that love from him. If you don’t feel loved, there is someone up there who knows you and your name and he loves you with a never ending love.

Secondly, he not only loves you but he proved it by doing a wonderful act. Think of a thing or a person that is really important and precious to you, and think that you are going to give that to other people. It is hard and it seems impossible right? It is hard to give the one that is precious and valuable to you without any condition or if that is really important, you will not even give condition because I’m sure you won’t have any plans to give to that thing or person. Nevertheless, the Lord gave his one and only Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins for us to be saved. I am sure that Jesus Christ is precious for the Lord, but he gave what is important to him.

I heard one story of a boy who was convicted guilty of his sins. He was given a penalty to be executed at exactly 3:00 in the afternoon that day. The culture of that place is if there is a person to be executed it must be on time, and it should have a signal from a church bell. If the time passed and the execution did not happen then the boy will be saved. The time came and the boy should be executed, all of the people who will execute him were just waiting for the bell to ring. However, the time passed and it did not ring. They were furious and curious at the same time so they checked the church and the bell. When they saw the bell, they see blood running down from the inside of the bell. They checked where the blood is coming from and they saw an old lady hugging the clapper or tongue of the bell. They were shocked on what they saw. Hence they found out that the old lady is related to the boy – she is his grandmother. Her grandmother sacrificed for him to be saved. She hugged the clapper of the bell so that it won’t ring when the time comes that his grandson will be executed. That is indeed a wonderful and sacrificial act that Jesus also gave to us. We are sinners, yet he gave his life for us to be saved.

Lastly, He is giving us a wonderful pact. From the verse John 3:16 that I have mentioned above is what it means to have the wonderful pact -- “whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” If you will believe in the Lord and will make him as your Lord and Saviour, then he will give you an everlasting life in heaven. This is a pact that you can trust for the Lord kept his promises. I remember a song entitled “Trust His Heart.” The lyrics of this song are “God is to wise to be mistaken. He is too good to be unkind, so when you don’t understand, when you can’t see his plan, when you can’t trace his hand – trust his heart.” Trust the heart of the Lord; He only wants what is best for you. Will you accept and take this pact?

Again, God has done wonderful things for you and for me even after we know him. He has in stored wonderful fact, wonderful act, and wonderful pact for you. These things are not lie and I can testify that it is true for I have been experiencing the love of the Lord into my life. It is not too late to make a decision; you are highly esteemed in the sight of the Lord no matter who you are and what you do. Just trust Him with your life. Let him be God, and he will handle everything for you. I am not imposing any religion here. Actually, I think it is not what the Lord values, what he give important is for you to have a personal relationship with Him because He created us for this purpose. Having relationship with him is so easy to do, just pray to God with all your heart. Ask for forgiveness for all your sins, and then tell him that you are accepting him as your Lord and Saviour. After that, let God be the master of your life.
